Falmouth is one of
the largest towns on the Cape. Like Sandwich and Bourne, Falmouth was
formed by a different glacier than the glacier whose melting created the
towns farther out on the Cape. Falmouth has one of the longest coastlines
of any town in the Commonwealth, which creates beautiful harbors and areas
with extraordinary water views.
Town agencies including
the Planning Board, the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Conservation Commission,
the Department of Natural Resources, Shellfish Warden, Harbormaster and
the Board of Selectmen are very attentive to the environmental demands
of that coastline.
The town has set
aside large geographical tracts of land for public conservation, including
waterfront, woodland, and back land areas that are the natural habitat
for wildlife. Falmouth tries to retain attractiveness in the face of growth
